Nepali Citizen Arrested with Wildlife Carcasses on Indo-Nepal Border near Kharibari

Nepali Citizen Apprehended with Animal Parts on Indo-Nepal Border, Investigation Underway for Possible Trafficking Links.

Kharibari, May 07 (Siliguri Journal) – A person from Nepal, named Dumbar Sabkota (29 years old), was caught with dead wild animals at Panitanki, right on the border between Nepal and India in Kharibari.

Reports state that the person was taken into custody during a regular border inspection on Monday. They tried to cross from Sikkim into Nepal in a four-wheeler, carrying five deer antlers, 30 porcupine quills, deer skulls, snake bones, and antlers from Himalayan goral.

During the inspection, the officials from the 41st Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) confiscated the animal parts and took the individual into custody. Later, the SSB handed over the person to the Tukriajhar Forest Department for more investigation.

The Forest Department has started an investigation to determine whether the detained individual is linked to international wildlife trafficking. Meanwhile, the person who was arrested appeared before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court for legal procedures.
