Siliguri, Dec 29 (Siliguri Journal) – North Bengal Basfore and Harijan Welfare Organization recently conducted the “Uttar Kanya Abhiyan” to support various important requests. Unfortunately, the police intervened and stopped the campaign near Fulbari Murder Road.
As per reports, on December 26, the sanitation workers of the organization kickstarted the Uttar Kanya Abhiyan near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Cooch Behar. Subsequently, the on-foot rally reached Fulbari on December 29.
The Abhiyan was initiated to advocate for a 22-point demand list, which includes requests for a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, improvements in the conditions of Dalit-Harijan sanitation workers, and the conversion of temporary positions in government offices into permanent ones.
Following the rally’s approach towards Uttar Kanya, the police interrupted the procession at Fulbari Murder More. Subsequently, representatives from eight districts emerged, presenting a 22-point memorandum.
In reference to this, Luv Kumar Mallick, Assistant Secretary of the organization’s Core Committee, mentioned that on December 26, the Uttar Kanya Abhiyan commenced in Cooch Behar, supporting the 22-point demands. He conveyed that eight representatives from the organization presented their demands to the Officer-in-Charge of Uttar Kanya. Additionally, he noted that the Officer-in-Charge assured to address the issues raised.
