Siliguri, September 11 (Siliguri Journal) – Tensions escalated at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) as students surrounded Principal Indrajit Saha until midnight, protesting the suspension of five students accused of fostering a ‘threat culture’. The protest led to an emergency council meeting late Tuesday night to discuss the situation.
The unrest has been brewing for several days following allegations of a ‘threat culture’ at NBMCH. An investigation committee was formed to look into the matter, and its report, submitted on Monday, recommended the suspension of five students.
On Tuesday night, students, joined by members of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), protested the suspensions, claiming they were not given a fair chance to defend themselves and that the allegations were unproven. As a result of the protest, the suspensions were postponed, with another council meeting set for Wednesday afternoon to review the decision.
