Massive fire broke out at Kharibari’s Panitanki

Man injured rescuing child, locals' efforts futile as fire ravages home, police investigate; panic grips Prasadu Jote, Kharibari.

Kharibari, Feb 22 (Siliguri Journal) – In the wee hours of Thursday, a significant fire erupted at a home in the Prasadu Jote neighborhood, located near Panitanki in Kharibari. According to reports, Manik Barman’s house was engulfed in flames around 2 a.m. Apparently, he was alerted by the noise from his cattle and upon investigating, discovered the fire.

Initially, locals tried to put out the fire themselves, but unfortunately, it caused significant damage. Approximately Rs 1 lakh in cash, four rooms of the house, and various documents were reduced to ashes. Fortunately, after receiving the alert, a fire engine arrived and managed to bring the situation under control.

During the chaos, Manik sustained injuries while bravely trying to rescue a child from the burning house. He is currently receiving medical care at Naxalbari Hospital. The incident understandably caused panic in the neighborhood. The authorities from Panitanki Outpost have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
