Naxalbari, Nov 28 (Siliguri Journal) – Local residents, along with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and activists, stopped the road construction from Budhkaran Jote to Naxalbari College. They claim that inferior quality materials are being used in the project.

On Tuesday, road construction began in Budhkaran Jote, Naxalbari, with an approximate budget of Rs 1 crore 32 thousand, as part of the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority’s (SJDA) initiative. However, locals and BJP workers protested on the same day, claiming that substandard materials were being used in the project.

BJP leader Sadhan Chakraborty raised concerns, asserting that the construction is employing subpar materials. He noted the completion date was pre-mentioned on the board before actual completion and emphasized filing a formal complaint with the Block Development Officer (BDO) about this matter.

Naxalbari Gram Panchayat Upa Pradhan Biswajit Ghosh denied the accusations while acknowledging the damaged guardwall, assuring an investigation. He cautioned against halting the ongoing works.
