Cooch Behar’s Endangered Tortoise Successfully Rescued

Local man rescues rare tortoise in Cooch Behar, earns praise from conservation committee; Forest Dept plans safe release after investigation.

Cooch Behar, Dec 25 (Siliguri Journal) – In a great effort to protect wildlife, a local hero named Pritam Das rescued an endangered tortoise in Cooch Behar. Pritam, who lives in Ward No. 19, spotted the tortoise being sold in Kalighat-Ghoramara. Without hesitation, he bought the tortoise for Rs 100 and quickly alerted the Mohan Raksha Committee.

Soon after, committee members and forest officials came to Pritam’s home, where they successfully recovered the tortoise. Pritam’s dedication to forest conservation is highly appreciated by the community.

The General Secretary of the Mohan Raksha Committee, Ranjan Sheel, highlighted the rarity of the tortoise and praised Pritam for the rescue. Additionally, Dulal Das, a Forest Department employee, mentioned that after a thorough investigation, the turtle will be released.
