Rajganj, Jan 05 (Siliguri Journal) – In an amazing effort, the people in Bhandari Gachh, Rajganj came together to support a needy elderly couple. They gathered donations to construct a tin house for them. The Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Samijuddin Ahmed, also played a crucial role in aiding the couple.
The elderly couple, Samaru Mohammad (72) and his wife, lived in a hut in the area and didn’t have any children. Samaru, being elderly, couldn’t work anymore, while his wife earned a living as a maid. Recognizing their situation, the community came together, collecting thousands of rupees to construct a new house for them. The new home is built with concrete pillars, wood, and tin to provide a more secure living space for the couple.
Panchayat Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed, representing the Bhandari Gachh region, shared that it’s his electoral booth. Despite the elderly couple being on the ‘Awas Yojna’ list, they faced difficulties as the central government hadn’t allocated funds for them. Recognizing this, the community, along with Panchayat Pradhan’s support, came together to construct a house for the couple. Ahmed commended the residents for their outstanding initiative in addressing the pressing need for proper shelter.
