The distressing incident occurred on May 16, when the body of a research scholar was found hanging at a rented accommodation in Shiv Mandir. The scholar’s brother later filed a murder complaint against the accused professor at the Matigara police station. As a result, the professor has been suspended from his duties at North Bengal University.

Since the incident, the ABVP has been demanding action against the accused professor. They initiated an indefinite strike two days ago and have now called for a 24-hour strike. The university has been significantly impacted by the strike since this morning.
