Authorities Investigate as Missing Youth’s Body Found in Teesta Canal Near Phansidewa

Post-mortem underway to determine cause. Phansidewa police probe possible suicide or murder in youth's tragic death.

Phansidewa, April 28 (Siliguri Journal) – Phansidewa was filled with shock and worry when the body of a young man who had been missing for three days was discovered in the Teesta Canal. The young man, named Mahesh Chowdhury from Bankimnagar area in Siliguri, had been missing for three days.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the Teesta Canal Gate of Power House in the Jalas-nijamtara area of Phansidewa block. Mahesh Chowdhury, the young man who passed away, ran a hardware shop in Fulbari. He disappeared on April 25th after stepping out for lunch from his shop.

After numerous attempts to find the young man, his family lodged a missing person report at the NJP police station. Eventually, local residents discovered Chowdhury’s body in the Teesta Canal. Later, officials from Phansidewa police station were notified and retrieved the body, which was then identified by family members.

The body has been taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, the Phansidewa police have launched an investigation to establish whether the incident was a possible suicide or murder.
