Siliguri, Jun 03 (Siliguri Journal) – In a major success, the Pradhan Nagar police stopped an attempt to smuggle cannabis hidden in a car’s bonnet and seats. The police found a large amount of cannabis and arrested the driver, Ranjan Dey, who lives in Balurghat.
Acting on a tip-off, undercover officers conducted a sting operation on Hill Cart Road near Mahananda Bridge. They stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle, uncovering five packets of cannabis hidden under the bonnet and seats. The haul weighed about 35 kg and has an estimated market value in the lakhs.
Police sources revealed that the cannabis was being transported from Cooch Behar to Siliguri Junction. However, timely intervention by the officers foiled the smuggling attempt. On Monday, the accused was brought before the Siliguri court, and further investigation is ongoing.
