Naxalbari, Jun 23 (Siliguri Journal) – In a major victory against wildlife trafficking, authorities have arrested a smuggler trying to illegally transport a rhinoceros horn into Nepal. The suspect, Ajit Kumar Singh, is a resident of Manipur.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint operation by the 41st battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Tukriajhar forest department led to a raid at Satbhaiya toll plaza in Naxalbari. The raid resulted in the arrest of the suspect. During the search, authorities recovered a rhinoceros horn weighing 1.025 kilograms from the individual.
Following the arrest, the rhino horn will be sent to the Zoological Survey of India for further analysis.
