Rajganj, Jun 20 (Siliguri Journal) – In a recent demonstration, local residents blocked the intersection at Ambari in Rajganj on Thursday, demanding immediate repairs to the Sahudangi – Ambari Road state highway. The protest was fueled by mounting frustrations over the deteriorating condition of the road.

Police from Ambari Outpost and Bhorer Alo police station quickly responded to reports of the blockade. After about an hour of protest, Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed and the Officer-in-Charge of Bhorer Alo police station assured residents that their concerns would be addressed. This assurance led to the lifting of the blockade.

Protestors Tushar Kanti Dutta and Biswajit Das emphasized the severe issues caused by the road’s poor condition. The 5 km stretch from Sahudangi to Ambari is riddled with potholes, posing significant problems for pedestrians and school children and leading to frequent minor accidents. Heavy traffic on the damaged road worsens these issues, prompting protestors to demand a halt to heavy traffic until repairs are completed. Despite a tender being issued and road work starting about seven months ago, the project has stalled for unknown reasons, heightening residents’ frustration.

Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed acknowledged the legitimacy of the grievances, explaining that discussions with the road work agency are scheduled for Friday. He assured residents that efforts would be made to expedite the road repairs and resolve the ongoing issues.
