Cooch Behar, May 17 (Siliguri Journal) – In a tragic event following the recent elections, TMC leader Animesh Roy from the Lalbazar area in Sitalkuchi block was shot late Thursday night. According to reports, Roy was returning home after attending an organizational meeting at Lalbazar Chowpathi when he was attacked.
The attackers allegedly fired at Roy, who was later rescued and taken to Sitalkuchi Primary Health Center. He was then transferred to a nursing home in Cooch Behar for further treatment. Reportedly, Animesh Roy was shot above the knee. Officials from Sitalkuchi police station have launched an investigation into the incident, but the identities of the attackers remain unknown.
During medical treatment, Cooch Behar district TMC leader and district council vice-president, Abdul Jalil Ahmed, visited the injured Animesh Roy on Friday. Ahmed suggested the involvement of the BJP party in connection to the incident.
In response, Baren Chandra Barman, the BJP MLA of Sitalkuchi Assembly, denied all allegations, stating that the TMC party has no work but to blame the BJP. He further emphasized the need to wait for the police administration to conduct a proper investigation.
