Siliguri, Dec 21 (Siliguri Journal) – New Jalpaiguri Police nabbed Sandip Kumar Gupta on charges of a Rs 85 lakh fraud related to a land agreement. Gupta is accused of providing false information during the deal.
According to reports, Bela Agarwal from Jhilmil Commerce Private Limited engaged in a land agreement with two Khalpara businessmen, Sandip Kumar Gupta and Pankaj Kumar Gupta. Allegedly, the brothers falsely asserted ownership of the entire plot, securing an Rs 85 lakh advance from Bela. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the claimed ownership by Sandip and Pankaj was untrue.
After the revelation, Bela Agarwal lodged a written complaint at the NJP police station on August 29. Acting on the complaint, the police arrested Pankaj Kumar Gupta on September 14. Currently, Pankaj is out on bail.
Sandip Kumar Gupta, who had been evading arrest, was apprehended by NJP police on Tuesday (December 19) from an area under their jurisdiction. The next day, he was presented before the Jalpaiguri court, which denied his bail request and ordered a 14-day judicial custody. Sources indicate that Sandip had sought anticipatory bail in the High Court, but it was also turned down.
