Siliguri, Dec 01 (Siliguri Journal) – Manik Talukdar, who lives in Tufanganj, Cooch Behar, got stuck in the Silkyara tunnel for 17 days due to a tunnel collapse. On Friday, after being rescued, he reached Bagdogra Airport from Delhi on his journey back home.

Upon reaching Bagdogra Airport, Manik Talukdar received a warm welcome from Partha Pratim Roy, the Chairman of North Bengal State Transport Corporation, Pradhan of Balrampur Gram Panchayat, and others. During his media interaction, Manik shared his joy at being back home. He mentioned the critical situation during the initial 18 hours when they lacked oxygen, but he praised the unwavering morale of the workers.

Reflecting on the incident, Manik explained that rescuers learned about the trapped workers’ condition after pumping out water from the tunnel. Oxygen arrangements were then made, and they sustained for ten days on puffed rice. Manik also appealed to the state government to organize job opportunities for those affected by the incident.
